Who We Are

The Southwest Ohio Critical Incident Stress Management Team (SWOCISM) is a group of dedicated, caring, and specially trained peer professionals, who help emergency personnel deal with some of the most stressful aspects and occurrences of their occupations. Our team represents all areas of emergency care and public safety services including Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Communication Call-takers and Dispatchers, Chaplains, and Mental Health Providers.

Each member of our team is a volunteer who has completed a certification process along with continual extensive training, who simply wants to give back to others!

Supporting Our Communities

The Process

Is a step-by-step strategy to assist first responders and others who have been involved in critical incidents that leave them or their team emotionally and/or physically affected by an incident or even due to an accumulation of multiple incidents that have gone unresolved.

It is led by peers to help peers understand and overcome the incident by helping make sense of something that may not make sense by putting the puzzle pieces together after a critical incident. Although every incident may not be a crisis for you, but maybe for a teammate, and you might hold that puzzle piece they need to get through this incident.

The purpose of CISM is meant to allow individuals or groups to return to what they do best by being a productive member of their team and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
